GM announced today that it is replacing the e38 with the GT500, an engine that is about twice as powerful as the e36, which will be available with a 3.6L engine and will have a higher output of 240hp and 220ft lbs.
GM says that the GT550 will be more fuel efficient and will offer an even more competitive price.
The e38 engine, GM says, “is the world’s most advanced engine.”
In the US, GM plans to offer both the e37 and e38 engines, but the e40 will be the new engine for the new GT350.
“We’ve taken our best shot at maximizing the performance of the e34,” GM’s GM North America president and GM vice president of product development Tom Gautz told reporters today.
“The e38 is a better engine and more efficient.
The GT350 is a more advanced car, but it has all the benefits of a new car and we are just starting to get to where we need to be.”
